Thurso is the most northerly town on the Scottish mainland. It is situated at the mouth of the River Thurso and is an excellent base for touring the north and visiting Orkney.

DAY 1 We depart from home and travel to Thurso.
DAY 2 We make a visit to the Castle of Mey, holiday home of the Queen Mother, falling for its isolated charm and hearing it was to be abandoned, she decided to save it. The Queen Mother renovated and restored it, creating the beautiful gardens you see today. For almost half a century she spent many happy summers here and shorter visits at other times of the year. We then travel to John O’ Groats and Wick before returning to Thurso.
DAY 3 We board our ferry at John o’ Groats. After the short 40 minute crossing, your local coach and guide will be ready to drive you across the Churchill Barriers, along the northern coast of Scapa Flow with beautiful views across the water. We will visit Stormness and have time to walk through the winding main street and may visit the museum featuring Orkney’s whaling history. No visit to Orkney would be complete without visiting Skara Brae hidden under sand dunes for thousands of years (entrance not included). A two hour stop will be made in Kirkwall before returning back to Thurso.
DAY 4 Our excursion today takes us along the dramatic north coast to Tongue.
DAY 5 We depart Thurso and travel homeward.
